Die Kranichsteiner V.I.P.eers Essayas Afewerkie-Tekie, Rachid Bouji und Nassim Beyay werden unter der Leitung von V.I.P.eers-Projekt Co-Koordinator Christoph Klinger sowie Paul Czekalla (JugendKlub Kranichstein), Vanessa Schelper und Eun-Cheong Kim (Ökumenisches Kinder- und Jugendhaus Kranichstein) vom 18.-27. Juli 2008 am European Youth Summit 2008 "Under the EUmbrella: Welcome Diversity !" in der Steiermark / Österreich teilnehmen.

Das Jugendtreffen, an dessen Zustandekommen das Büro für Städtepartnerschaften und internationale Beziehungen der Wissenschaftsstadt Darmstadt maßgeblichen beteiligt war, wird vom Europazentrum Europahaus Graz organisiert und steht unter dem Motto: "Europe’s Youth in an Intercultural Dialogue"

Das Europazentrum beschreibt die Idee der Veranstaltung wie folgt:

Das besondere Anliegen des European Youth Summit 2008 ist es, einen Beitrag zum "Jahr des interkulturellen Dialogs" zu leisten: Die Weiterentwicklung der Europäischen Union hin zu einer Union des interkulturellen Zusammenlebens steht im thematischen Mittelpunkt.
Die Jugendlichen, die aus CZ, D, E, I, PL, TR und A kommen werden, sollen generell für das interkulturelle Zusammenleben in der EU sensibilisiert werden, wobei auch besonderer Wert auf einen Vergleich der Situationen und Bedingungen in den einzelnen Ländern gelegt werden wird. Es ist das Bestreben, eine Vielfalt von Meinungen und Ansichten kennen- und verstehen zu lernen. Alle TeilnehmerInnen sind auch Betroffene d.h. es handelt sich sowohl um junge Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund als auch um junge Menschen ohne Migrationshintergrund. Das wird die Auseinandersetzung mit dem Thema und die Diskussionen darüber besonders interessant gestalten.

Das vorläufige Programm sieht einen ständigen Wechsel aus harter Arbeit und Party vor:
